February 26th, 1829 was the birth of Levi Strauss, creator of the classic "blue jean". In 1873, Levi Strauss, along with co-creator Jacob Davis patented the process of adding rivets to pants for strength and durability. Modern jeans began to appear in the 1920s.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Levi's jeans became popular among a wide range of youth subcultures, including, greasers, mods, rockers, hippies and skinheads...and in 1981, jeans cut just for women were introduced.
